Day 2 skiing

So great today! I know it's only my second day out this season, and aside from being a tad cold, it was fantastic! It was very overcast down in town today so I wasn't sure it would be great up on the mountain, but when I got there, the whole ski area was above the clouds. I took a few photos. Just so cool!

Day 1 skiing!

Skied in Santa fe today. What a great first day of the season too. Sunny and warmer at the mountain then in town! Skied 8 or 9 runs and plan to go back tomorrow.

Day 1. Hiking sun mountain.

Well it's really day 3 for this hike, but I just now thought I could start blogging about it and then when ski season starts blog about all my days out. It's still so beautiful here, weather is sunny and not too too cold. I hope to do a few more hikes here, but we will see how the weather is. In one of the photos you can see my street. I will have to put an arrow to it do everyone can see it.

Shame on you for not telling me

Shame on you for not telling me.
shame on you for thinking you have a right to know.
what would you have done, come to a place you're not wanted.
its funny that you think i would care, or should.
this has nothing to do with you anymore.
shame on you for acting like nothing ever happened.
how could you expect me to care.

fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me.
so, shame on you for not telling me.

*(the idea for this post was given to me by my aunt Nancy. to start a written piece with something you heard as the first line. i received this as the subject line of an email. some of you will know can probably guess who sent me that email)

West Chop

I have found this great loop to walk from the house.  It's a 4 mile loop if you go all the way through town and back! About a mile into it you get to West Chop, and its a great place to stop, sit and see the water, as well as a fantastic sunset.

The past few years I have been collecting images of sunsets from all over.  I hope to get a few good ones from different locations on the Island this summer.  Here are a few images from a recent walk.

shoes

in trying to downsize my belongings i have acquired over the last few years of my life, i realized i have a lot (and i mean a lot) of shoes.  i also realized i don't have many friends with a similar foot size, who would wear a stiletto.

its amazing how much "stuff" one acquires through ones life...being only 31, i can not imagine what my apartment would have looked like in another 30 years.  as part of this journey, i decided (really there was no choose) to downsize my "stuff".  i am hoping i can fit everything i need in my car for the next year or two...we will see how that really works out.

i have a lot of shoes...a lot.  the top on my closet was stacked high with shoe boxes, full of shoes i may or may not have ever worn.  one pair i wore once to a job interview. another in vegas for my 30th birthday (they gave me blisters),  two of the same shoe in different colors since they were on sale.

shoes! i love shoes.  i blame this on my mother.  she loved shoes, and shopping.  i remember trying to wear her shoes around the house when i was little, before they fit. i remember being so excited when someday i would have the same size foot and be able to have all these shoes to myself. i also remember when my foot became to big to fit into my mothers size 6 shoes...this was not the plan.

so i ended up with shoes...lots of shoes. a lot of shoes that i will not be able to take with me, since they could fill the trunk alone.  they had to be passed along to a fellow shoe lover, who would love them just as i had. my dad's girlfriend had just the person, her daughter...and who better than a fashionista who lives in manhattan.

i left a box of these shoes with my dad to pass along.  during a phone call later, he asked how it was that there were so many unworn shoes there, why did i buy them and not wear them?  i really had no good answer other than i felt i had to have them at the time, and that was it.  his girlfriend came to my rescue and explained it so well...its an experiment, you get a shoe, and maybe it works, maybe it doesnt, but thats how you create your personal style.  she related it to how he will spend thousands of dollars on material for a new invention, and if it doesn't work, he just throws it away.  same as my shoes.

i love shoes, and will always love shoes.  shoes.

today is the first day of the rest of my life

so here we are, the first day of the rest of my life...yesterday was, too.  this blog is also the first i have ever had, and it will be the first time i have ever lived on martha's vineyard.

i have to say i don't think of myself as a writer, but decided to start a journal to follow my journey into a world unknown to me.  i know i will be on the vineyard through the summer, and then plan to move to santa fe, nm.  i have no plans as to what i will do in santa fe, but know it will be exciting and new.  as for the vineyard, i will be a part time nanny for my very cute and amazing cousin eli, as well as working in a restaurant part time to save up cash for the trip out west.

i hope this writing thing gets a little easier, and i hope to post photos to go along with these entries.

let the journey begin!
